Rio Kobayashi, Company Place
5.3.1
This poster was designed for a pavilion by Rio Kobayashi, a London-based furniture designer of Austrian and Japanese heritage. The pavilion itself draws on the geometric vocabulary of the Vienna Secession and Wiener Werkstätte alongside Japanese woodcraft traditions, and the poster translates that pairing into a printed form. Geometric patterns, flat planes of solid colour, and gold accents reference Secession-era graphics, while vertical Japanese typography and gradient hues nod to the posters of Tadanori Yokoo. The two visual traditions are layered into a single composition, with each register remaining distinct enough to be read on its own. The result mirrors Kobayashi's approach to working between two material and cultural lineages.
